Un domo geodèsic és una estructura que forma una semiesfera composta per una xarxa de formes geomètriques. Normalment, el material emprat en l’estructura és la fusta o també l’alumini. En comparació amb altres elements estructurals, pesa poc però és molt resistent.
Un cop està construïda l’estructura, es pot cobrir amb materials naturals (cobertura vegetal o fusta, per exemple) o amb altres materials (lona o vidre, per exemple).
Els materials i les mides dependran de l’ús que se li vulgui donar. Es poden trobar domos temporals, com un planetari desmuntable, per exemple, o domos fixes, com un hotel o un habitatge, una caseta de jardí o un espai de meditació.
El domo que nosaltres estem construint estarà destinat a formar part de l’Ecobosc, el museu a l’aire lliure sobre el canvi climàtic. S’hi albergarà la zona audiovisual de l’ecomuseu i tindrà també una petita terrasseta amb vistes al bosc aprofitant un canvi de nivell del terreny.
